Fresh Paint app

Microsoft's Fresh Paint App is free for all Windows 8 and WindowsPhone 8 devices, and allows very high quality digital emulation of oil, watercolour, pastel and pencil mediums. The user interface is bright and friendly, led me to think of it as a bit of a kids app when I first started playing with it. However, the more I use the app the more I find to love about it. It hasn't got the layers and luminosity blending options that digital artists are used to and so forces you to go back to your roots, but without the pots of turpentine and cumbersome easels. This isn't to say it is a basic app, just one with a clear and focussed vision for what it wants to be. The oil emulator (which is so great I've barely touched the other options), is very realistic and super responsive, and even has a pallet for which to mix your paints. Fresh Paint is a pleasure to use and a full-on creative work-out for us lazy digital artists.

Here are a selection of the pieces I've created using Microsoft's Fresh Paint app on my Surface devices.
