VMWorld 2017, Barcalona

I was invited to attend the VMWorld 2017 conference in Barcelona to help celebrate the diversity of VMWare users.

Armed with a photographer and my trusty Surface Pro, I spent the two days painting as many of the conference attendees at possible.  The final portraits will be used in a wide variety of different ways online and in social media. Each portrait was painted in around 20 minutes, using Autodesk Sketchbook Pro.

I wanted to see how far I could push the Surface Pro 4, in terms of canvas size and detail. This painting, done using Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, measures at around 1.2 meters squared at 300dpi. I lost count of the number of layers, but it was probably around 10 after merging a few.

I only have the 4GB i5 model and this managed to run fine for this painting. On a number of occasions, I'd lose the Sketchbook UI and have to restart the app, but no paintings were ever lost. I've reported this to Autodesk but assume it could be a memory issue.

Ideally I'd like to live stream some of my painting sessions, but the 4GB i5 Surface seems to underpowered to do this whilst painting, which is a shame as I'm able to do this on my iPad Air 2 with Periscope built into Procreate.

If anyone has any suggestions, please get in touch!

It has been a summer of catching up with family, and this has given me a wonderful opportunity to (finally) paint my nephew. I can't believe he's got this far without being 'got'!

The portrait was painted on a Surface Pro 4 using Sketchbook Pro app.
