I'm happy to announce that I will be at the @Connects Christmas Meet-up on the 10th December in London, to talk about digital painting.

This festive season we want to bring you all together to celebrate the fantastic (and hectic) year we’ve had as the Connects community. Please join us as hear from some of inspirational people in our community, play some Microsoft games, reflect on the year passed and of course, eat, drink and be Merry… Christmas.

I am very pleased to be included in the top 10 for the People's Choice award at this years Mobile Digital Art & Creativity summit Exhibition.

The 3-day weekend kicks off on Friday, August 1st with the Grand Opening of the 2nd Annual Mobile Digital Art Exhibition, displaying the work of over 100 artists and, once again, attracting major media attention. The Grand Opening is followed by a two-day Summit with a packed program of workshops, seminars and masterclasses attracting artists and educators from across the country.
Silicon Valley's Creative Hub!
The Exhibition and Summit will be held in the Pacific Art League’s newly renovated historic building at 668 Ramona Street, Palo Alto, CA 94301.

It is wonderful that my portrait Cubitt (2014) was selected out of 665 submitted pieces, especially because it was the only exhibited artworks created on Microsoft's Surface or using their Fresh Paint app.

Voting for the People's Choice winner is now open and can be accessed here.

Celebrating Earth Day 2014 with Microsoft

I was asked to paint a piece of art to celebrate Earth Day 2014 by Microsoft's Fresh Paint Team. Fresh Paint is a free painting application available to download on Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows Phone devices.

I took inspiration from Neil Gaiman's book, Blueberry Girl, which I often read to my daughters.

Extreme Fingerpainting!

A technical love story

Being a tablet artist is a wonderful thing. You can take your whole studio with you wherever you go, painting a masterpiece on the bus, train, plane... in the staff room at work or on the sofa in front of the TV in the evening. But I do sometimes miss the thrill of the large canvas, painting in big sweeping movements, dancing around on your toes...

At BETT 2014 (The British Education Technology Tradeshow in London's ExCel arena), I had the opportunity to work for three days on, what could be the world's largest touchscreen, the 84" ActivPanel Touch by Promethean. Plugged into my Microsoft Surface 2 Pro, I was able to use the huge screen to fingerpaint on the beautiful 4K display.

Over the three days I demoed the screen by painting their peacock image using both Microsoft's FreshPaint app and Autodesk's Sketchbook Pro, the final pieces and timelapse videos can be found below.

If this all sound too tempting to you, you'd be pleased to hear that Promethean are currently offering a free ActivSoundBar with every ActivPanel Touch. Details can be found here.

Fingerpainting will never be the same again!

Worlds Youngest Mobile Digital Artist?

Posted on: October 8th, 2013 by roz

Well, it wasn't long before my two-year-old daughter managed to pry my cherished Surface Pro out of my hands to have a go herself. Playing on the Fresh Paint App, she enjoys being able to splash paint around without her parents hovering overhead, trying to protect the walls/floor/carpet/cat...

She seemed to get the hang of the interface quick enough, with the touch screen controls very intuitive for a new computer user. Now all I need to do is buy a thick rubber case to protect it...

Guest at the launch of the Surface 2, New York City

I had the pleasure to be flown over to New York City to present my artwork to the International Press at the launch event of Microsoft's new line up of Surface Tablets.

The Surface Pro has Wacom technology built in, which makes it a serious beast, able to run full Coral and Adobe packages. It was awesome to watch Penny Arcade's Mike Krahulik using Manga Studio with his Wacom Feel. Inspirational stuff.

The new models of the Surface (Surface 2 and Surface 2 Pro) boast improved battery, improved screen, improved audio, improved keyboards... you get the idea. One of the most exciting things to be revealed were what Microsoft is calling 'Blades', new accessories you can clip onto the base of the Surface (where the keyboard would normally connect) to add additional controls for specific tasks. The example they showed was a sound mixer for budding DJs. They are keen to know what people would want their 'Blade' to do; could we have one to assist with painting apps?

These examples below were created on Microsoft's own application Fresh Paint, which is free for all Windows 8 devices, including phones!

Fresh Paint on Windows 8

Over the past few months, I've had the opportunity to play with some new toys. I've managed to get my hands on a Surface Pro to play with Microsoft's Fresh Paint App.

Fresh Paint is a great oils simulator, which is very responsive and easy to get into. The user interface is simple to use and the SkyDrive syncing backs up your paintings automatically in the cloud.
The App, available on Windows 8 devices (including mobile) also has pencil, pastel and will soon have a great watercolour simulator added in the Windows 8.1 update due in October. The thing that sets itself apart from other art apps is the paint pallet on which you can mix your watercolours and oil paints.

Check out the Flickr Group for work by various mobile artists.

Here are a few examples of work I've done on it:
